Jessie J announced this week that she is cancer-free, sharing the news in a video posted to social media after her annual breast MRI. The singer-songwriter told her fans, “RESULTS ARE IN AND I AM CANCER FREE!! I sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year.”
The diagnosis came in June 2025, during which she went back and forth on whether to tell anyone, which is an understandable instinct, but in the end she decided she wanted her fans to know. What followed was a difficult year, filled with tests, treatments and surgeries.
In August, Jessie was forced to pull all her U.S. tour dates and pushed back the UK and European shows ahead of a second surgery. By September she was back on stage at BBC Radio 2 In the Park in Essex, alongside her two-year-old son — the first time he had ever seen her perform live. She told the crowd she was grateful, and it was one of those moments where the word actually meant something.
Before performing her song “Living My Best Life” that night, Jessie explained the meaning to the crowd, revealing she had been diagnosed just two weeks before the song came out. Everyone around her said to pause, to wait, to put things on hold, however, she said no and just kept going. “Life is about standing in the storm but holding up your umbrella and just keep moving forward,” she told the crowd. “So this song is called ‘Living My Best Life,’ and that is what I’m doing every single damn day.”
She also said something that landed harder knowing what she had been through: “We never know when our last day will be, so soak this up, hug the people you love hard.” Again, not a new sentiment. But coming from her, at that show, it was not a platitude.
In November 2025, Jessie released Don’t Tease Me With a Good Time — her first album in eight years, put out on her own label after parting ways with Republic Records. Eight years is a long gap under any circumstances and releasing an independent record while in cancer treatment is a different thing entirely, though she did not seem to present it that way. She just put it out.
The cancer-free news is the end of a chapter she handled more openly than most people would have. She kept talking through the surgeries and the cancellations, the lows alongside the highs. Her fans were inside the story the whole time. In a way, the announcement this week belonged to them too.
