Skye Newman has released her new single “Walk“, a sharp and emotionally charged track that continues her rise as one of the UK’s most compelling emerging voices. The song showcases Newman’s signature directness and willingness to confront difficult emotions through unfiltered songwriting.
Written alongside Boo, Luis Navidad and Chrissi — marking Newman’s first collaboration with Chrissi — “Walk” pairs restrained production with a powerful lyrical focus. Rather than relying on elaborate instrumentation, the track gives space to Newman’s words, allowing the emotional weight of the story to take center stage.
“Walk” explores the breakdown of a relationship defined by imbalance and emotional exhaustion. Newman captures the frustration of defending someone at her own expense and chasing loyalty that was never returned. The recurring image of walking away functions both literally and symbolically, representing the moment someone reclaims control and refuses to absorb further damage. Speaking about the song, Newman explained that it’s about “taking back your power when a relationship is no longer serving you, putting your heels on and walking away.”
The release arrives during a major breakthrough period for Newman. After winning BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2026, she has quickly become one of the UK’s most talked-about new artists. Her momentum has been reflected in two nominations at the Brit Awards for Song of the Year and Breakthrough Artist as well as a Best Newcomer nomination at the MOBO Awards.
Her streaming numbers also highlight that rapid ascent. Newman has surpassed 196 million global streams and ranked among the most-streamed British female solo artists in the UK in 2025. She also made chart history as the only UK female artist in the past decade to place three debut singles in the UK Top 20.
