Tyler Perry has formally responded to a $77 million (£57 million) lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court by Mario Rodriguez, strongly denying allegations of sexual assault.
In the legal filing, Perry’s council rejected “each and every allegation” contained in the complaint. They argue that the lawsuit fails to present valid legal claims and maintain that Rodriguez did not suffer damages. The response also states that any alleged contact between the two parties was consensual.
Perry’s legal team further characterizes the case as a “money grab,” claiming the allegations were fabricated in an attempt to obtain a financial payout. According to the filing, the lawsuit was allegedly brought after Perry stopped providing Rodriguez with financial assistance.
The case has attracted significant attention given Perry’s prominence in the entertainment industry. The filmmaker, actor, and writer is the founder of Tyler Perry Studios and one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures, with a career spanning film, television, and stage productions.
