Dizzee Rascal, one of the pioneers of grime music, has treated fans to an unexpected release with his surprise EP titled I Invented Grime.
The 4-track EP features hard-hitting tracks, “Co-Sign, ”Match Fit,” “Arsey,” and “Daily Duppy,” with the former arriving with its captivating music video.
“Co-Sign” highlights Dizzee’s lyrical prowess, and the rapper made sure to offer fans a visually striking video that depicts him sitting amidst retro computers, adding a nostalgic yet edgy vibe to the production. On the track, Dizzee spits directly into the camera:
“It’s showtime/ I don’t need a sponsor or a co-sign/ I ain’t got to say my name, you know mine/ I don’t borrow bars, I got my own lines and my own rhymes/ But you can hold mine.”
The EP sees Dizzee addressing loyalty, fame, and his legacy: “Either you’re with me or against me/ Either you love me or resent me/ Is it a Rolls, is it a Bentley?/ Why am I shallow and so empty?”
The release of I Invented Grime follows Dizzee Rascal’s eighth studio album, “Don’t Take It Personal,” which dropped in February 2024. That album featured notable collaborations with artists like P Money, BackRoad Gee, Not3s, and D Double E, further cementing his relevance in the UK music scene.
Fans won’t have to wait long for more visuals from the EP, as Dizzee has announced that another music video will drop on December 14th.
In addition, Dizzee Rascal is gearing up for a UK and Ireland tour to celebrate the 15th anniversary of his iconic 2009 album Tongue N’ Cheek. The tour will feature performances of chart-topping hits such as “Dance wiv Me,” “Bonkers,” “Holiday,” and “Dirtee Disco.”
Tickets for the ‘Tongue N’ Cheek‘ anniversary tour are on sale now, and fans can stream “I Invented Grime” on all major platforms.
