After months of court appearances and litigation, a judge has now mandated mediation between Nicki Minaj’s spouse Kenneth Petty and his 1994 rape victim, Jennifer Hough, as a means of resolving the prolonged lawsuit.
On Tuesday, December 6, Judge James R. Cho referred the matter to mediation and said for the record, “The case is referred to Court-annexed mediation. Parties to select a mediator by 12/20/2022 and complete mediation by 3/6/2023. Parties may participate in the mediation remotely.”
There will be “limited written discovery that would facilitate settlement discussions” between the parties, adding that the case will proceed to trial if Jennifer Hough and Kenneth Petty are unable to reach a settlement outside of court.
In 1995, Kenneth Petty was found guilty of attempted rape in the first degree and was imprisoned for more than four years.
On Tuesday (Dec. 6), the court also announced the case’s pretrial timetable. By January 9, 2023, automatic disclosures must be exchanged. By September 5, 2023, all discoveries, including expert depositions, must be completed.
Regarding his designation as a sex offender, Petty has reportedly filed a suit against the State of New York and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Per reports, oral arguments in the lawsuit will be heard on January 6, 2023.
