Ariana Grande announced her eighth studio album, Petal, during the third consecutive night of her residency at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on June 19. The album arrives July 31st via Republic Records and BabyDoll Music, co-executive produced by Grande and her longtime collaborator, ILYA.

Following Eternal Sunshine, which landed at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2024, Petal is a 12-track record, all lowercase in the listing.

Describing the album, Grande said: “Something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging. It’s kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments, whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me.” She also said the tone is “a little feral,” tapping into something rawer and more unapologetic than she had let herself explore before. At one point she just summed it up: “This kind of just feels like, f–k it.” That is honest enough.

Back in January, she had misled fans by saying she was not working on new music and would need “a new brain” to process it all. Turns out she was in the studio the whole time. The album titles — “kiss me,” “hate that i made you love me,” “petal,” “stay,” “oh well,” “big feelings,” “freak,” “(warning signs),” “like i do,” “never get over me,” “bad thing (bunny hop),” “nowhere, nobody” — suggest she was not holding back much while she was there.

Grande is currently embarking on her Eternal Sunshine Tour which began on June 6th in Oakland and will close with a 10-night residency at the O2 in London ending September 1st. With Petal arriving before the tour winds down, fans may be treated to performances of songs from the album.
