Notably, it dominates the iTunes and Apple Music real-time sales listings in multiple countries, showcasing a strong initial reception that is expected to translate into robust overall first-week commercial performance, especially when streaming numbers are factored in.
The incredible initial performance had already been declared by the femcee ahead of the projects release, during which she told her devoted fans, affectionately called, #Barbz:
“Dear Barbz, It just dawned on me; I am about to release one of the greatest albums of ALL TIME. Love always, Harajuku #Barbie,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) at the time.
Speaking to Vogue, Minaj also explained that for this project, she’d returned to her proverbial origins, stating:
“When I look back at a lot of my music, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, where was the me in it?’” she said to the outlet. “So for this album, I went back to the old game plan.”
Adding, “The idea that saying something like that [referring to the lyric, “I’m fighting for the girls who never thought they could win,” from “I’m The Best” on Pink Friday] could give hope to people — that optimistic outlook is something I think I got away from.”
The album’s meteoric rise to the top of the charts in the streaming charts in the days after its release suggests that Minaj’s expectations for the project will ultimately be realised.
