Donald Glover, known to many as Childish Gambino, is closing a significant chapter in his career, as the final installment of his musical journey under the Childish Gambino persona, titled, “Bando Stone & The New World,” is set to release on Friday, July 19th.
In an interview with The New York Times on July 17th, Glover shared his reasons for moving on from the Childish Gambino persona. He expressed that it no longer felt fulfilling, remarking: “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done.’ It’s not fulfilling and I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”
Glover‘s final project as Childish Gambino is a bold one, serving as the soundtrack companion to a blockbuster of the same name.

Emphasising his content with the decision, Glover went on, “I think grace is undervalued in the world. When I put my son on my shoulders, I feel deep joy. That’s real. No one on their deathbed is going to look back and say, ‘Thank God I avoided being cringe.'”
The revelation follows Glover’s recent listening session for Band Stone & The New World, which features the likes of Chloe Bailey, Amaarae, Flo Milli, Jorja Smith, Yeat, and many more, in NYC’s Little Island. The album will serve as Gambino’s fifth entry and his first since 2020’s 3.15.20, which was recently updated with “Atavista as a reimagined version.
Meanwhile, Glover is riding high off his recent Primetime Emmy nods for his role in Prime Video’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith.’ His nominations include Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. He now stands a chance to add to his previous Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series which he secured for his work in “Atlanta.”
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC on Sunday, September 15th, from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live.
