SZA continues Billboard chart domination with 9th non-consecutive week atop the coveted chart.
According to Billboard, “SOS” earned another 93,000 equivalent album units in the past charting week. A feat that also serves as the most chart-topping week by a female artist in the last seven years.
The most recent female artist to spend nine weeks at the top of the charts was Adele with her album “25,” as well as Taylor Swift’s 2015 album, “1989,” which also spent nine weeks atop the charts.
As widely anticipated, the Billboard 200 had a shakeup in the past charting week, with Rihanna’s 2016 chart-topper re-entering the chart in No. 3 following her epic Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime performance, while Paramore’s “This Is Why” debuted at No. 2.
Likewise, SZA’s “Kill Bill” track, lifted from the chart-topping album, has remained at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks. Some critics attempted to troll the singer-songwriter, claiming she only makes “sad girl music.”
In response to the critics, SZA told New York Times: “Sad-girl energy has always been my energy. It’s never been, like, bitch-girl energy.”
SZA’s gripping music video for “Kill Bill” received widespread acclaim, sparking talk of a reboot nearly two decades after the sequel premiered in theaters.
