Another person has died in relation to the recent tragic incident which took place at Nigerian Afrobeats musician Asake’s Brixton concert, which left multiple persons injured and others hospitalized with severe injuries.
According to reports, security personnel hired for Asake’s Brixton Academy concert died on Monday morning after being hospitalised for several days with life-threatening injuries.
His demise comes after that of Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, of Newham, east London, who passed away on Saturday. Another woman, 21, is still hospitalised and fighting for her life, according to Met.
As a result of the incident on Thursday night, eight persons were injured and sent to the hospital for treatment. As per the Metropolitan Police, all three individuals were in the building’s entryway when they suffered critical injuries in the crush.
In a statement released earlier by the Met Police, “a large number of people attempted to force their way inside the Asake event on Thursday, forcing organisers to call off the performance mid-way through.
In a statement shared to social media following the death of Rebecca Ikumelo on Saturday (Dec. 17), Asake stated that he was “devastated” and “overwhelmed with grief,” and requested that people “keep them in our prayers” after saying he had spoken to Ms. Ikumelo’s family.
He went on to add, “My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.”

The artists manager, Stephen Nana, spoke to Sky News following news of Mr. Hutchinson’s death, stating that he was “completely speechless and lost for words” and that “We only came to entertain and perform. Never thought that anything like this would happen.”
Colin Wingrove, Met. Police Chief Superintendent said in a statement after the tragic news of Mr. Hutchinson’s death:
“It is devastating news that a second person has lost their life following the events on Thursday. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Gaby’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.”
The Met Police have established up an internet portal and have asked the over 4000 attendees to submit materials such as photos, videos, or any other evidence that would help them get to the bottom of what happened that fateful night.
They said in a statement: “In the disorder, a number of people suffered serious crush injuries and required medical attention. Police are appealing to anyone who attended the venue to come forward with valuable information.”
Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), a police oversight agency, has announced the start of an inquiry.
The force’s Directorate of Professional Standards is now investigating an incident in which an officer was “apparently seen to push a member of the public.”
The IOPC is aware of the event, according to a spokesperson, who also said: “We will assess the available information, including footage of the incident, to determine what further action may be required.”
Ade Adelekan, Met Police Gold Commander stated that where excessive force has been used by officers, “those officers know they have to be accountable for their actions.”
The Directorate of Professional Standards will review all materials, including body-worn video footage taken by personnel who were on the scene.
In an effort to ensure that “nothing like this happens again,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan said that City Hall is in contact with venues and authorities around the metropolis.
Khan, who was “devastated” by news of Mr Hutchinson’s passing, has extended his “heartfelt condolences” to family and loved ones, and said that he “won’t rest until we have the answers all those impacted by the tragic Brixton incident need and deserve.”
The venue’s owner and operator, Academy Music Group, released a statement following the tragic news of Rebecca’s passing:
“All at O2 Academy Brixton and Academy Music Group are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to Rebecca’s family and friends, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating news at this extremely difficult time.”
