The global premiere of Lil Nas X’s new documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival was delayed due to a bomb threat.
Originally scheduled for 10 p.m. local time, the preview didn’t begin until around 10:30 p.m. after festival organisers received information about the alleged threat.
Per Variety, sources suggested that the threat specifically targeted Lil Nas X because of his identity as a Black queer artist. Additional reports indicated that the incident occurred while the directors of the documentary, Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel, were on the red carpet, with the “Montero” star still in his vehicle, although on the premises. Organisers held his carpet debut for approximately 20 minutes as officials investigated the threat, which was ultimately deemed not credible.
According to a festival spokesperson, there was a “slight delay” in the premiere due to a local police investigation near the red carpet, which they also subsequently described as a “general threat” that did not target a specific title or attending artist.
Titled, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” the documentary offers fans insights into the artist’s life before his breakthrough success and will also include tour footage as well as backstage shots.
