Cape Verde’s biggest star, June Freedom, has released his new album Casa Mira Mar via EMPIRE and Flight Club Music Group. The project, whose title means “House with an Ocean View,” is named after June’s childhood home in São Filipe, Fogo, and captures the sun-soaked rhythms of his heritage with a modern, genre-defying approach.
Casa Mira Mar blends Afrobeat, Kizomba, R&B, alt-pop, and hip-hop, weaving lyrics in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Cape Verdean Kriolu to mirror June’s multicultural journey from Cape Verde to Boston, New York, and now Los Angeles. “This album feels like the house I grew up in,” June says. “It feels ‘island’. It feels like dance. Like real life — joy, pain, and challenge all in one.”
The album features a strong lineup of collaborators, including Nana Fofie, Lua de Santana, SABRI, ÉLLÀH, and Elji Beatzkilla, reflecting a shared diasporic connectivity that runs throughout the project. The focus track, “Wait”, offers a bright entry point into the album’s layered, emotional energy while showcasing June’s fluid multilingual delivery and knack for infectious melodies.
June Freedom has become known for merging his music with immersive pop-up dining experiences, creating sensory spaces that reflect the warmth and complexity of his sound. His artistry, marked by over 250 million global streams and a dedicated fanbase of more than 2 million monthly Spotify listeners, continues to attract co-signs from industry heavyweights like Akon and Jerry Wonda, while his debut Anchor Baby and EMPIRE’s “Where We Come From” compilation solidified his presence in global music conversations.
