Following reports that a BBC presenter offered a minor money in exchange for explicit photos, the broadcaster has reportedly suspended the undisclosed presenter while the allegations are investigated.

According to The Sun, the presenter is accused of soliciting photographs from the 17-year-old youngster in 2020, and has subsequently made multiple payments over a span of several years.

The BBC has since released a statement, expressing its utmost commitment to addressing any allegations with the utmost seriousness, and asserting that they have in place a “robust internal processes in place to proactively deal with such allegations.”

According to The Sun, the presenter contacted the alleged victim subsequent to the publication of the allegations, posing the question, “What have you done?,” before asking them to ask their mother to “stop the investigation.”

The BBC also acknowledged that it was initially made aware of a complaint in May. However, further allegations of another kind were presented to them on Thursday, after which the publication asserted that they have been “in touch with external authorities, in line with our protocols.”

They added, “We can also confirm a male member of staff has been suspended. It is important that these matters are handled fairly and with care.”

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police has acknowledged that they have been in communication with the broadcaster. However, they noted that no official referral or allegation has been formally filed.

In a communication addressed to staff members, Director-General Tim Davie expressed the utmost gravity with which the BBC is approaching the allegations.

The email added, “By law, individuals are entitled to a reasonable expectation of privacy, which is making this situation more complex.

“I also want to be very clear that I am wholly condemning the unsubstantiated rumours being made on the internet about some of our presenting talent.

“We are in contact with the family referenced in the media reports. I want to assure you that we are working rapidly to establish the facts.”

According to the alleged victim’s mother, she was “shocked” when her child showed her screenshots of their video chat, wherein the renowned presenter appeared to be positioning himself by “leaning forward, getting ready for my child to perform for him,” as he sat on a sofa at his home.

She added that her child informed her that she’d “shown things,” while she showed her the screenshot from the alleged video call.

She went on to assert that she overheard the presenter engaging in a phone conversation with her child, wherein the presenter told her child, “I told you not to f***ing ring me.”

The child, who is now 20 years old, is alleged to have used the money handed to her by the presenter for illicit drugs, which the mother believes ruined the child’s life.
