In the current climate, the pandemic has sparked an increase in technology and creativity, leading many young and older individuals to discover their true passions. Some have pursued new courses, acquired new skills, and embarked on new careers. The demand for talent has never been greater, but the high cost of living poses a threat. However, fear not! Pirate Studios, one of the world’s most renowned studio brands, has managed to grow and thrive during this season of change, offering affordable and accessible studios nationwide. In fact, there are 27 studios in the UK alone. The studio concept was first developed by CEO David Borre, who had a background in drumming for local bands in Bristol before pursuing a career in banking. After spending six years managing and designing retail banking products, he came up with the concept of an affordable 24-hour self-service music studio. Since then, the studio concept has expanded throughout London and now boasts over 700 studios worldwide.

The primary focus of Pirate Studios is to provide a safe space for everyone, where both community and business can flourish. The achievements of Pirate Studios so far include engaging with Dr. Muna Abdi as an external diversity and inclusion consultant, becoming Living Wage Foundation accredited, using gender pronouns in their HR management system and onboarding, undertaking trans-inclusion training with Gendered Intelligence, and registering to employ two interns as part of the #10,000 Black Interns program.

Beyond Pirate Studios, they have collaborated with Small Green Shoots, The National Lottery, and Sony Music Social Justice Fund to establish The National Youth Studio Fund. This joint initiative aims to provide studio access to charities that utilize music to enhance the lives of young people. The National Youth Studio Fund offers studio time, tools, and teaching, reflecting their belief that music and art can foster a sense of community and empowerment among young individuals throughout the UK, regardless of their backgrounds.

Pirate Studios has also hosted events and showcases, allowing artists to showcase their music to prominent music executives and A&R professionals who can provide valuable guidance. Their workshops are currently available, so it’s advisable to secure your space as soon as possible. Previous artists have performed at prestigious venues such as the AVA Club in Berlin and Printworks in London. Pirate Studios is a versatile platform that caters to various creative professionals such as songwriters, music producers, mixing engineers, DJs, voice over artists, and more. It provides a convenient and affordable one-stop shop for artists to create and enhance their talents.
