Mo Gilligan is taking his love of fried chicken to the next level in his first Netflix documentary, Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy, arriving globally on 5 August 2026.
The 96-minute documentary follows the comedian as he eats fried chicken at every meal for a month while travelling from South London to the United States to uncover the history behind one of the world’s most popular takeaway foods. Along the way, Gilligan explores the cultural, social and economic forces that have fuelled the global demand for fried chicken, while also examining the stereotypes and marketing surrounding the dish.
Netflix describes the documentary as an “eye-opening journey” that encourages viewers to think differently about where their food comes from and the choices they make.
Gilligan has long spoken about his passion for chicken and the role it has played in his life. Speaking to The Guardian in 2021, he said:
“I’ve always been surrounded by chicken: jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken… what you can do with chicken is so amazing.”
He added:
“How other cultures use this meat fascinates me. If you think you’ve had everything with chicken, someone will show you something you’ve never had before.”
The comedian also revealed his ultimate comfort meal is brown stew chicken, rice and peas, salad and coleslaw, preferably cooked by his mum.
“When people say, ‘What would your death row meal be?’ It would probably be that. It’s just comfort in food.”
