Zendaya stuns on the latest issue for British Vogue, where the multi-talented star shares about her life in film, her personal life, future plans, amongst others.

During the candid interview penned by Marisa Meltzer, Zendaya reveals she wishes to direct and develop films with Black female leads.

Zendaya answered a question about whether she’s had to think about how much she’d want to tell her future kids about Black experience in America, saying:

“I don’t know what I’m going to tell them. Hopefully, they’ll be able to look at what I’ve done and my body of work and see it,” adding that, art is “a huge catalyst for change.”

Zendaya went on to link her statement to her desire to work behind the camera, saying:

“If I ever do become a filmmaker, I know that the leads of my films will always be black women. I gotta hurry up and figure out how to f*cking become a director, man. I’m trying, I’m learning every day, I really am. There’s so much I want to do.”

Whilst Zendaya is yet to approach that calling, Malcolm & Marie and Euphoria director, Sam Levinson believes the actress will be “an astonishing filmmaker.”

In the conversation, she also discussed working with Timothée Chalamet, who she co-stars within Dennis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune, calling him “a very talented actor” and “a good friend to have.”

She said: “I was the only other person closer to his age on the cast. So he was like, ‘Awesome, someone who understands my jokes!’,” Adding that, they even had “dance parties” in her trailer. “He just rolled up with his little boom box. … [Playing] 2000s dance songs like Soulja Boy.”

Speaking of the upcoming season for Sam Levinson’s ‘Euphoria,’ Zendaya said of her character Rue, “this season breaks my heart for Rue.”

She went on: “I can only understand it to an extent, and then I have to lean on Sam [Levinson]. He was an addict for many years as a teenager. And he’s been clean since he was 19 years old. That’s the thing that makes me hopeful.”

The HBO series’ creator, Levinson, called the new season “brutal” and lauded Zendaya’s ability “to go to those dark places.”
