World-renowned actor Will Smith stars in ‘King Richard,’ which is the real-life story of Richard Williams, the father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams.
A visceral and resonant look at the familial origins of one of sports’ most renowned surnames is offered to viewers in the new trailer.
The Warner Bros. production follows Richard’s journey from the streets of Compton, California to international fame, using his vision, tenacity, and unusual methods.
Speaking of the movie, Smith said:
“One of the greatest honors as an actor is to be able to celebrate someone’s legacy while they’re still here creating it. I’ve gotten to do it a few times in my career playing Chris Gardner and Muhammad Ali, and every time it’s a fulfilling and expansive experience beyond compare.
“So now, I’m proud to show you all our first trailer for King Richard, the story of the man who introduced the world to Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The origin story for some REAL DEAL superheroes!!
“Thank You Venus, Serena, Isha, Lyndrea, Yetunde, Oracene and Richard for letting us share your story with the World!”
Smith is joined by Aunjanue Ellis, who portrays the girls’ mother, Oracene “Brandi” Williams, Saniyaa Sidney, who plays Venus Williams, and Demi Singleton, who plays Serena Williams, in the film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. Coach Paul Cohen is also played by Tony Goldwyn.
On November 19th, 2021, ‘King Richard’ will be released in cinemas and on HBO Max.
