Who would have predicted that Jada Pinkett Smith wasn’t “the only one engaging in other sexual relationships,” at the time reports of the entanglement surfaced online, following an episode on Jada’s Red Table Talk.
Speaking to GQ’s Wesley Lowery for his cover of the publication’s latest issue, Will Smith revealed the secret, admitting that his wife Jada wasn’t the only culprit in the act.
While their arrangement isn’t for everyone, Smith acknowledges that it has allowed them to reach a point in their two-decade-plus marriage that he considers to be “the highest definition of love.”
“We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way,” he explained. “And marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”
This news comes prior to the publishing of his upcoming memoir, Will, on November 9. The ‘Pursuit of Happyness’ actor seemingly implied that Jada’s background had an influence on how their own union turned out in their quest for “relational perfection.”
“Jada never believed in conventional marriage.… Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship,” he explained. “So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up. There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection.”
During the aforementioned Red Table Talk episode on Facebook Watch, Smith admitted to Jada’s assertion that her “entanglement” with August Alsina happened at a time when the couple was on a break, saying:
“We decided we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.”
Following what was an emotional yet entertaining episode on the show, memes of Will quickly surfaced online, which appeared to depict the star actor as being sad.
Touching on the subject of the meme, Smith said: “It was midnight and we were going on vacation the next day. It was like, no, no, no, guys, I’m not sad. I’m f*cking exhausted.”
