Former Love Island participant Wes Nelson, along with many others, has long advocated for a more inclusive and diverse roster and with the show set to air soon, the topic has once again been raised.
In 2018, Wes made an appearance on Love Island’s fourth season and with this year’s contestants expected to be the most ‘diverse’ yet, the multi-hyphenate has some thoughts to share.
This comes after ITV commissioner Amanda Stavri stated that having LGBTQ+ celebrities as part of the show is a “logistical difficulty.”
During an interview with Metro.co.uk, the television personality spoke out sharing his thoughts on Stavri’s comments including the show’s lack of diversity and inclusion.
Wes said: “I don’t know the logistics of it, obviously, I don’t run the show but if that’s what they say, that’s what they say.”
He goes on to say: “They’re great at what they do and they try and make it as diverse as possible, at all times. I think even more so now. It’s important for that to happen in today’s society, it’s got to be accepting of everything, and it’s got to be diverse.
“Any way they can implement that, whether it be another series or a separate series or this series, it could be anything.”
Adding: “Obviously, I have no idea how it works, or how they put it all together, I was just on it, I have no idea. I’d like to see it, it’s good news that it’s diverse, it’s nice to see that.”
With that said, what are your thoughts on the show’s diversity and inclusivity?
