UK rapper Nines is reportedly facing prison time after confessing to a conspiracy to smuggle 28 kg of cannabis into the United Kingdom via Spain and Poland.

The report comes after Nines, real name Courtney Freckleton, pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges today (August 12) at Harrow Crown Court, following police raids across London and Borehamwood, that saw him and an accomplice Jason Thompson, 35, from Barnet apprehended in June.

Between March 10 and July 3 of last year, the two admitted to conspiring to import the Class B narcotic cannabis into the UK from Poland and Spain, as well as conspiring to transfer criminal funds.

Per the court hearing, the scheme consisted of one successful importation and a second attempt at importation, with a total amount of cannabis of 28kg. The money laundering offense is said by prosecutor Genevieve Reed, to be in connection to a £98,000 debt as well as the worth of the narcotics.

Both Nines and Thompson denied two additional counts of conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis, and according to Ms Reed, prosecutors will not pursue a trial on the charges.

The raids were carried out after hacking of Encrochat, an encrypted messaging service used by thousands of criminals throughout the world that was shut down following infiltration by French authorities.

Judge Rosa Dean remanded the pair in custody while they await the new sentencing date. The pair is likely to face long sentencing considering the severity of the charges.
