Tyla has been cast in Toy Story 5, voicing a new character called the Inflatable Flamingo, a playful, comedic pool toy created exclusively for the Sub-Saharan localised version of the film. The movie, directed by Andrew Stanton and continuing the “Toy Meets Tech” storyline, is due June 19th.
Acknowledging her excitement over the role, Tyla said in a video announcement, “When I was asked to join the cast of Toy Story 5, I was so excited — I just couldn’t believe that the offer was even presented to me. I grew up watching Toy Story, it’s such a big movie in my family, my parents love it, my whole family loves it. And now we gonna watch and hear a little bit of my voice in it.”

The Inflatable Flamingo is described as an unexpected addition to the gang’s adventure as the toys navigate a world where technology is increasingly competing with traditional play. The character is expected to bring humour, warmth, and a distinctly South African flavour to the film. The returning cast includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Annie Potts, with new voices from Greta Lee, Keanu Reeves, Conan O’Brien, and Craig Robinson. Bad Bunny voices a character called Pizza with Sunglasses, with Taylor Swift contributing an original song.
The role marks Tyla‘s second foray into animation, after contributing “Everything Goes With Blue” to the 2025 Smurfs soundtrack. Between that and this, Tyla is quietly building a presence in family entertainment that sits well alongside her music career. For a South African artist to be in the room where Woody and Buzz are having their next adventure is not a small feat and going by how she talked about it, she knows that.
