The Weeknd and a group of other rich individuals have just invested more than $2 million in a startup that creates customized music for customers.

The Weeknd, his manager and XO Records CEO Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman, Reverb founder David Kalt, School of Rock CEO Rob Price, and Recycled Paper Greetings co-founder Michael Keiser are among those who have come on board to invest in the company, according to Music Business Worldwide.

Songfinch, which was co-founded by John Williamson, Rob Lindquist, Scott Kitun, and Josh Kaplan, bills itself as a platform that allows users to select the style and mood of the song they wish to be made. To complete the tune, one of the company’s handpicked artists utilizes customised lyrics based on the user’s tales and recollections.

Each song costs $249 and is composed, recorded, and given to the customer within three to seven business days. Songfinch seeks to take customized messaging to the next level, claiming to have aided struggling musicians amid the pandemic.

In a statement, Slaiby applauded the business on the concept and stated his excitement to be an investor, saying:

“Congratulations to Josh Kaplan and his partners for building an incredible company and business,” adding, “We’re excited to be a part of it and continue to grow it together.”

Reiterating Slaiby’s remarks, Kallman also said: “Songfinch gave me the opportunity to send an extraordinary musical gift that proved so moving and emotional for all the people I sent it to. The creativity and impact of this service is truly remarkable and I had no hesitation becoming an investor.”
