Set to premiere on February 26th, Hulu has unveiled an official trailer for ‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’ movie starring Andra Day.

‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’ marks Andra’s first on-camera feature film following her cameo in Cars 3. The film gives an insight into Holiday’s tragic life story and the FBI’s extensive efforts to derail her career. The film is an adaptation of the 2015 book, Chasing The Scream.

Besides Andra Day, the cast includes the likes of Trevante Rhodes as Jimmy Fletcher, Garrett Hedlund as Harry J. Anslinger, and Natasha Lyonne as Tallulah Bankhead among others.

Speaking about the movie, director Lee Daniels told the Hollywood Reporter: “When you think of Civil Rights leaders, you think of men. When you think of Billie Holiday, you think of this brilliant tortured jazz singer that happened to have been a drug addict.

I didn’t know that she kicked off the Civil Rights movement. Before there was a Civil Rights movement, there was Billie Holiday and ‘Strange Fruit.’ The government saw that song as a threat and she was a target. That’s history and they keep it from us.”

It is alleged that the FBI initially targeted Billie for her issues with substance abuse, but it is claimed the real reason behind the FBI’s efforts was due to Holiday’s increase in popularity with songs such as her remake of “Strange Fruit”.
