Following last week’s MTV Video Music Awards from New York City’s Barclays Center, the FCC has received multiple complaints about performances by Normani, Teyana Taylor, and Madonna, which complainants deemed too explicit for TV.
Normani, 25, appeared on stage wearing a sexy metallic set outfit for her act, alongside Teyana Taylor, 30, who joined the singer on stage, attached to a cross-like structure for their intimate performance of Wild Side.
A complainant from Kansas claimed that Normani and Taylor’s outing for Normani’s single Wild Side offended them, according to complaints reviewed by TMZ.
Another complaint expressed dissatisfaction with the pair’s performance of the single, which included kissing and lap dancing, saying:
“This programming was on at 9 p.m., our children were with us watching TV. We had to make them leave the room during this porno ceremony.”
Another complaint insisted that the pairs act “was so extreme and should NEVER have been allowed to be on any TV show,” referring to a point where Normani is seen moving “upward until she was able to stick her crotch directly in [Taylor’s] face and on the girls lips exhibiting oral sex.”
According to the outlet, a complaint filed in Weatherford, Texas claimed that Normani’s appearance depicted a glamorous take on sexual assault.
Another complainant said they, “had to keep changing the channels so my 12-year-old son wouldn’t watch that.”
Other complaints were directed at Madonna’s on-stage performance, claiming that MTV failed to warn viewers of the show’s content, as Madonna appeared to be drinking while performing in a very revealing costume.
