In a surprising turn of events, this year’s Billboard Music Awards which took place on Sunday, May 23rd, and aired live on NBC, has reportedly scored the lowest ratings in the show’s viewership since its inauguration.
The massive lineup of stars which includes appearances from the likes of BTS, P!nk, The Weeknd, Alicia Keys, Nick Jonas, and more wasn’t enough to secure the show a positive showing in ratings.
The GRAMMYs, Golden Globes, Academy Awards, and other major awards shows have all seen year-over-year declines in viewership in recent years.
However, in this case, the BBMAs 2021 statistics are even lower than last year’s event, which drew 3.6 million viewers owing to the worldwide health crisis, having to postponed until October.
With the entertainment sector slowly finding its footing again, we hope the following years will see better growth in numbers, as many industries figure out ways to regain viewership interest.
