It would seem the ‘5 0’Clock’ hitmaker has been offended by several artists over his use of autotune when singing, although this time, it wasn’t a direct address such as his encounter with Usher.
T-Pain said during an appearance on Drink Champs that when he initially heard Jay-Z’s “Death of Autotune,” he believed it was an attack on his person.
“Of course! A wise man once said, ‘You can’t knock the hustle,’” T-Pain said. “I’m the face of this. Just like Lil Yachty was the face of mumble rap—anytime somebody talks about mumble rap, Lil Yachty was the first person to come up. I was the face of Auto-Tune. Anytime somebody said, ‘Auto-Tune,’ I’m the face. So, when you say Auto-Tune is wack, I’m the face.”
After the song’s debut, Hov said in an interview that auto-tune wasn’t a dig at T-Pain because he used it to produce great songs. T-Pain stated that he had prepared a diss track in response, but it never saw the light of day.
After it all, Pain would run into JAY-Z and hoped to thank and apologize to Hov, only to mash all of the words together and say “sorry for everything.”
Listen to T-Pain reflect on the incident down below.
