The multi-awarded-singer had lots to say during a recent Twitch stream, where he went on a rant over the music industry’s lack of creativity, especially among aspiring artists who he claims essentially mimic current trends.

Pain could be heard yelling: “You know when your sh*t sounds like somebody else’s sh*t,” he said in the broadcast. “You’re making it because you think—because you’re in the studio, like, ‘What’s the No. 1 record right now? We need to make another one of those!’ Stop doing that! Stop! You’re not original! Give me some original sh*t!”

T-Pain went on to criticize unknown artists who he claims, fail to provide something unique and instead cling to a template that has become all too predictable.

“Stop! Just f*cking do something else! God damn it! Do some different music!” he continued. “We have all the shit that you’re doing. We already have it! Lil Uzi Vert is already doing it. Lil Baby is already doing it. DaBaby is already doing it. It’s literally two n***as with Baby in their names that’s already doing all the music you want! Do something else! Do something else! That’s it! That’s all we want … Stop sending me this bullsh*t! And then get mad when I don’t like it. Jesus god-damn tap-dancing Christ!”

Making sure not to be misunderstood or taken out of context, Pain explained that, he has no problem with the new generation of rap superstars, while even agreeing that a select few were making great tunes; nonetheless, he asserted that the performers that make “bad music” are currently those making it, as they’re the ones with the money.

“The state of music has always been bad, but it’s about who’s willing to put the most money into it and put the most promotion behind it,” he said. “How the fuck did [Hanson’s] ‘MMMBop’ get popular? Because they spent money on it, but that was a bad state of music.”

Adding: “I’m not saying that this generation of music is worse than any other. I’m not saying that, ‘Oh my god, I’m so mad that my kind of music isn’t getting popular right now. I don’t give a fuck about that … I don’t give a fuck about numbers because I know all that shit can be bought … But I do give a fuck about you doing something different with your fucking music.”

T-Pain’s remarks predictably generated conflicting reactions on social media. Some users agreed with him, while others accused the 5 ‘O’Clock’ hitmaker of being envious of younger musicians.

In response to the criticism, Pain tweeted on Wednesday, 14th July explaining why he had no reason to be envious.
