Space Jam: A New Legacy is expected to beat Marvel’s Black Widow at the weekend box office, with a predicted three-day total of $32 million.

LeBron James, Don Cheadle, and Zendaya star in the basketball film, which is a standalone sequel to the famous 1996 film Space Jam. The film follows the renowned basketball star as he partners up with classic Looney Tunes characters to defend his son from a dangerous artificial intelligence.

According to Variety, the film earned $13.1 million on Friday alone from 3,965 theaters, making it Warner Bros.’ highest pandemic release while also marking the biggest pandemic debut ever for a family movie.

The report comes after last weekend’s box office dominator ‘Black Widow’ had a discouraging 80% drop in ticket sales on Friday, with only $8 million from nearly 4,000 theaters. Additionally, the film is anticipated to gross approximately $24.6 million this weekend, increasing the film’s total box office to $130.3 million.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, which made $3.815 million from 2,815 theaters on Friday, is likely to be the third-largest film of the weekend.
