Snoop Dogg is bringing some West Coast flavour to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards after being announced as this year’s host.

The hip-hop legend will take charge of the 2026 MTV VMAs as the ceremony returns to the West Coast for the first time since 2017. Last year’s ceremony was hosted by fellow rap veteran LL Cool J in New York.

For Snoop, the hosting gig represents a full-circle moment after decades of history with MTV and the awards show.

“MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning,” Snoop said, reflecting on the platform’s role in giving hip-hop a space to be “loud, fearless and seen by the whole world.”

He also highlighted his long-standing relationship with former MTV executive Van Toffler, who will be involved in this year’s show, promising fans more of the unpredictable moments the VMAs have become known for.

The appointment adds another milestone to Snoop’s extensive career, which has taken him far beyond music into television, film, business and major live events while maintaining his status as one of hip-hop’s most recognisable figures.

This year’s ceremony will broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday 27 September, marking a major homecoming for the West Coast rapper.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will air in the US on CBS.
