After a Forbes piece about cannabis use by Olympians in Tokyo, track star Sha’Carri Richardson became a trending topic following her removal from the U.S. National Olympic Team.
Megan Rapinoe, a soccer player for the United States Women’s National Team, was featured in the piece, where she discussed using CBD during training. She specifically mentioned Mendi, a CBD firm co-founded by her sister Rachael Rapinoe, as a source of CBD goods.
According to Forbes, Rapinoe claims CBD aids in her sleep and recovery following training sessions.
Many individuals on social media have pointed out that there appears to be a blatant double standard in effect.
So…the olympics can disqualify Sha’Carri Richardson for smoking cannabis under the guise of it being a performance enhancing drug, but ya throw a couple white folks advertising cannabis and not a fucking peep but an article in forbes?

THC and CBD, on the other hand, have different compositions in terms of psychotropic components. Furthermore, CBD is permitted under Olympic drug policy rules, whereas THC is prohibited.
Despite this, Rapinoe has been an outspoken supporter of athletes’ usage of cannabis and has also been amongst those who stood behind Sha’Carri during her incident.
In a statement issued to Forbes, Rapinoe said:
“We’re expected to perform on the biggest stages and highest levels, yet we can’t use all-natural products to help us recover. It’s not right, and these policies need to be changed to reflect where our culture is.”
She added: “The societal effect in terms of social justice that weed has had on this country is just absurd. There are so many, mostly Black and Brown, people sitting in jail for 10 or 20-plus years for weed, and it’s completely unnecessary. From a social perspective, we’re long overdue for the legalization of cannabis.”
