A musical artist has sued Rihanna’s Fenty brand, alleging that she got death threats when the business played the incorrect version of her song during Savage X Fenty’s 2020 fall show.
According to TMZ, the musical artist said that Fenty played the incorrect version of her song, “Doom,” which incorporates a sample of sacred Islamic proverbs. She also claimed to have received threats, including decapitation threats, after the Savage X Fenty event, which was live-streamed to millions of people.
According to legal documents, the artist advised Fenty on which version of the song to play, as there were two, i.e. one with religious chants and the other without.
Back in October last year, Chloe apologized on social media after the issue arose, saying she had no idea the songs she was sampling included sacred text.
Following social media backlash, Rihanna took to Instagram to issue a heartfelt apology for playing the song, writing:
“I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our Savage X Fenty show. I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest yet careless mistake. We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this!”
Rihanna and Fenty deleted the song from the fashion show recording after the incident.
While Rihanna’s apology was somewhat effective in calming down tempers, it remained insufficient for Chloe, who claimed she suffered from anxiety and depression due to consistent death threats that drove her into hiding.
Chloe is now suing Riri for $10 million in damages.
