In response to the widespread criticism currently ongoing on social media, against the royal family following Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince William has spoken out, in defense of the family.

William’s comment will serve as the first coming from a direct member of the family following the press statement released by Buckingham Palace post the airing of the interview.

During a visit to an east London school, William was questioned by a reporter who inquired whether he had spoken to his brother, Prince Harry since after the airing of the interview. To which William answered he hasn’t yet done that but plans to do so. A follow-up question asked William to comment about the royal family’s alleged racism which was gathered from Meghan Markle’s reveal to Oprah.

Meghan stated in the interview that there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [our baby’s] skin might be when he was born” in the family.

The Prince replied saying: “We’re very much not a racist family,” while walking away from the camera.

Since the interview aired on Sunday in the US and on Monday in the UK, the internet has been sent into a frenzy, as many have shown support for the couple whilst others remain judgemental claiming the Duchess is a liar and a bully. A notion that was implanted into minds after staffers of Kensington Palace accused Meghan Markle of bullying during her stay at the palace.
