Piers Morgan has been slammed for attacking Naomi Osaka’s move to avoid doing press conferences at the French Open.

The tennis player revealed that interviews have previously harmed her mental health and that she didn’t want it to impair her performance at Roland Garros. However, saw Osaka fined $15,000 and has since withdrawn from the Grand Slam.

While many applauded Osaka for taking care of both her emotional and physical health, the former anchor of Good Morning Britain criticized her describing her as “narcissistic” and an “arrogant spoilt brat.”

Piers went on to suggest that Osaka’s recent earnings of $55.2 million was a factor in her decision, saying it inflated her ego ‘to gigantic proportions.’

Writing a piece in the Daily Mail, Piers said: “What Osaka really means is that she doesn’t want to face the media if she hasn’t played well, because the beastly journalists might actually dare to criticize her performance, and she’s not going to ‘subject’ herself to ‘people that doubt me.’

“This is straight out of the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting to have the world’s largest cake and eating it, by exploiting the media for ruthlessly commercial self-promotion but using mental health to silence any media criticism.”

Piers’ comments were quickly slammed on social media, with several people taking to Osaka’s defense and agreeing with her decision to protect mental wellbeing.
