Perrie Edwards has spoken candidly about her relationship with Jesy Nelson in an appearance on Jamie Laing‘s ‘Great Company‘ podcast, admitting that the friendship became strained during their time in Little Mix and has not fully recovered since.
Edwards was careful to frame things fairly, remarking: “I’m not saying she’s this f**king monster, and everything was her fault,” she said, “but take some accountability for your actions and realize that you were difficult, you had difficult moments, granted there was reasons for those moments, but you can only pick somebody up so many f**king times before you start losing track of your own sanity.”
Nelson‘s Prime Video docuseries ‘Life After Little Mix‘, released in February, included claims that she felt unsupported during her struggles with body dysmorphia and that “no one cared.” Edwards appeared to dispute that directly, saying: “So then to sit there in interviews and be like ‘I wasn’t supported’… you were though.” Edwards also said she had been considering reaching out to Nelson before the documentary aired and that watching it pushed her back. “Part of me wanted to rekindle the friendship, until the documentary, and then part of me withdrew again.”
Despite all of it, she was clear that her feelings toward Nelson have not turned cold. The news of Nelson’s twin daughters being diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy hit her hard. “You wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It’s literally wild. I don’t want to see her hurt and I don’t want to see any of that. It’s heartbreaking.”
Edwards and her former bandmates have all pursued separate music careers, although a reunion with only the remaining three bandmates has been discussed in recent months.
