Sky has announced its latest drama series, ‘Possession,’ a five-part limited series starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Claudia, an ambitious biracial lawyer who travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim by a local man, Sheldon Shepherd (played by Cudjoe East) against Oliver Connaught (Jonny Lee Miller), a wealthy white aristocrat. But the case takes an unsettling turn when Claudia discovers that the disputed estate is the very place that has haunted her nightmares: Hope Hill, the Connaught family’s former plantation.

As she and Oliver dig deeper, the legal case becomes something else entirely: an unravelling of the brutal past tied to the plantation and the ongoing injustices still shaping the present.

The thriller series, which is produced by Snowed-In in association with Sky Studios, with NBC handling international distribution, is based on an original story created by Jefferson Bannis. Executive Producers include Ruth Kenley-Letts, Jenny van der Lande, Neil Blair, Karla Crome, Storm Saulter, Sam Hoyle, Serena Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jonny Lee Miller, with Roxanne Harvey serving as the Development Producer, as well as Kate Ogborn as Series Producer.
Mbatha-Raw comes to this off the back of her role in Marvel’s Loki. The casts for the limited series includes Bel Powley, Sheldon Shepherd, Nadean Rawlins, Sean Gilder, Olunike Adeliyi, Richard Dillane, Diveen Henry, Jack Bandeira, Shantol Jackson, Jeff Crossley, and Safina Simpson.
