According to reports, Twitter’s authorization to function in Nigeria has been revoked. The Ministry of Information and Culture verified the news in a statement issued on Friday.

Twitter was accused of permitting its platform to be used “for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence,“ according to the statement. Per the reports, Twitter removed a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari in which he threatened to deal with people in the country’s southeast. The president is said to be blaming the southeast for the recurrent assault on infrastructure in the region.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” the tweet read.

The tweet was flagged by Twitter, who subsequently replied to the ban by stating they were “deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria.” adding “Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society. We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world.”

As it stands, there has been no information on how long this ban is supposed to be and if Twitter will be allowed to continue its operations ever again. However, stay tuned to YEEEAAH! Network for updates as the story develops.
