Petty, 43, made the guilty plea during a virtual hearing with the United States District Court for the Central District of California on Thursday, according to court documents acquired by People, which could see him face up to a maximum of ten years in jail and a lifetime of supervised release. However, Petty may likely be sentenced to a minimum of five years with a supervised release, including a $100 court assessment fee, according to US Weekly.
During a traffic stop on November 15th, 2019, Beverly Hills Police learned that Petty was living in California without registering as a sex offender, despite being registered as such in New York following an attempted rape conviction in 1995.
Petty was then arrested in March 2020 after being charged with failure to register. He pled not guilty and posted $100,000 bail, according to People.
According to records, Petty served a maximum of four and a half years in prison for his attempted rape conviction.
