According to Variety, a live-action Pokémon series is in the early stages of development for Netflix. However, no plot specifics are presently available due to the project being in its “early stages.”

Joe Henderson will serve as a writer and executive producer on the series, according to Variety. The report tracks as Henderson is presently an executive producer and co-showrunner on Netflix’s Lucifer, which is in the process of premiering its finale.

Per reports, Netflix’s Pokémon will be an original but will attempt to be similar to 2019’s Detective Pikachu which went on to earn more than $430 million worldwide and starred Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular character along with Justice Smith.

Netflix’s decision builds on its existing content for future material when the streamer already has Pokémon series such as Pokémon: Indigo League, Pokémon Journeys, and more. There will also be live-action adaptations of anime shows such as Cowboy Bebop and One Piece, as well as an anime original based on Terminator.

Netflix has previously announced plans for more anime series based on Far Cry and Splinter Cell, as well as The Witcher starring Henry Cavill, a four-season deep Castlevania series, and news releases for live-action Resident Evil shows in the works.
