Following several challenges in recent times, Mulatto announced she was in a process of making a name change, as the femcee was often accused of promoting the offensive term “Mulatto” which is used as an insult to mixed-race individuals.
This report comes as her Spotify and Apple Music accounts have been renamed Latto, and a promo for her forthcoming single also bears the assumed new name.
Speaking in an interview with Hot Freestyle, Mulatto explained that she didn’t want to insult anybody, and after the realization that she had, she set out to fix things.
“You know, you might know your intentions, but these are strangers who don’t know you, never even met you in person,” she said at the time. “So you gotta hear each other out, and if you know those aren’t your intentions and that’s how it’s being perceived, it’s like why not make a change or alter it? For me, it was the name. So now I’m like, ‘OK, my intentions was to never glorify being mulatto.”
The “In n Out” rapper alluded to a name change earlier this week when she tweeted “LATTO SEASON” on Twitter.

The name change, however, became more apparent following her Instagram announcement of the forthcoming single on Friday 21st May.

It is safe to say that, Mullato is no more and this is a new and improved version now known as “LATTO.”
