In a recent episode of Jemele Hill Unbothered, The Wu-Tang Clan rapper revealed he had an opportunity to star in the record-breaking movie ‘Girls Trip’ to which he had no option but to decline.
Method Man also known as Clifford Smith Jr., revealed he was to play Stewart Pierce, the two-timing husband of Ryan Pierce, who was played by Regina Hall.
Explaining the reason for declining the opportunity, the rapper said: “I was supposed to be that a–hole guy that [Mike] Colter played. So when I read the script, I was like I feel like I’ve gotta take a shower. It was like I couldn’t relate to the guy. I like characters I feel like I can hang out with…But this dude was like, ugh. I didn’t like him. I’m sorry, I just didn’t like him.”
The multi-talented actor has made a name in the movie industry following his roles in Belly, How High, The Wire, The Deuce, and most recently in Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost where he plays Davis Maclean ‘a big shot lawyer’.
We would have loved to see Method play the role as his peculiar acting skills could have given a dynamic twist to the character but we respect his decision as it’s based on personal morals and that is certainly commendable.
