According to a report from The Daily Beast, Bill and his wife Melinda met with Jeffrey Epstein in September 2013 at the financier’s New York City townhouse. Melinda’s perception of Epstein was evidently so poor that she told Bill not to associate with him anymore, according to sources who spoke to The Beast.
Per the source: “He just was an obnoxious guy. He almost made a point of having bad manners, not paying attention at dinner. I could see how anybody, even without suspicions, would not want to be around him.”
After being incarcerated on sex trafficking charges, Epstein, a convicted pedophile, committed suicide in a Manhattan prison in 2019.
About the fact that there is no proof of criminal activity, a New York Times report claims that Gates and Epstein had a friendship dating back to 2011, with the two meeting several times between 2011 and 2013 with Gates’ associates acting as go-betweens for the two parties.
According to flight logs, Gates, like many other wealthy and prominent individuals, was a passenger on Epstein’s private plane, the “Lolita Express,” which flew from New Jersey to Palm Beach, Florida.
However, a spokesperson for Gates asserted his innocence saying he had no knowledge of Epstein’s ownership of the plane.
Following Epstein’s suicide, many persons of notoriety found themselves under scrutiny for their association with him and Gates had to make statements clarifying his relationship with Epstein.
He said: “I met him. I didn’t have any business relationship or friendship with him. I didn’t go to New Mexico or Florida or Palm Beach or any of that.”
He continued: “There were people around him who were saying, ‘Hey, if you want to raise money for global health and get more philanthropy, he knows a lot of rich people.”
“Every meeting where I was with him were meetings with men. I was never at any parties or anything like that. He never donated any money to anything that I know about.”
It is evident how much this incident took a toll on Gates and one may only presume on their marriage as Melinda wasn’t amused with the media headlines in relation to the bad press the whole debacle came with.
