The new win comes as the Christmas jam achieved 10.8 million streams over the course of the current tracking week which determines the most streams in a single week by any song in 2020 to date.
Breaking the barrier of peaking at #2 since its debut in 1994, the song also sets a record for the longest stay in the UK Top 40 as it stands 70 weeks strong. Also, no other song in UK chart history has spent more weeks in the Top 40 before #1.
Celebrating the huge win, Mariah Carey shared: “Happy Christmas UK!! We finally made it!!! We are keeping the Christmas spirit alive together despite how dismal the year’s been. Love you always! ♥️ Joy to the world 🌎😇🎄!!!!”
Jumping on Twitter, the elated Mimi tweeted: Jumping up and down in front of the Christmas tree with the kids and the dogs. Blasting “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, and sending virtual hugs to everyone across the pond who helped make it happen! Love you so much!!!
