Ahead of the forthcoming event, MTV is teasing a non “tradiitonal” hosting duty, which will feature all three artists and will see them “announce the show’s star-studded lineup of performers, presenters and winners, taking a more innovative and unique approach to the traditional ‘host’ gig seen in previous years.”
The announcement comes on the heels of news that Minaj will be awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which will mark the most recent for an artist since 2019. The award acknowledges an artist’s impact in the industry via the fusion of their musical and visual production.
Previous winners of the Video Vanguard Award include Missy Elliott, Kanye West, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J., with the latter serving as the first rapper to win the honour.
The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are slated to air live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 28, with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Khalid, BLACKPINK, Jack Harlow, Lizzo, MneskinAnitta, J. Balvin, Panic! at the Disco, Kane Brown, and more expected to take the stage.
