Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, Lifetime’s newest dive into the fictional world of the couple is a portrayal of the Sussexes’ recent problems with the royal family.
The first trailer, which includes a first look at part of the film’s content, shows the royal couple struggling with their choice to leave the UK for a less stressful life in Los Angeles.
Given how recent the events depicted in the film are, viewing the trailer is disconcerting to say the least, for example, the scene which sees the fictitious Harry (Jordan Dean) and Meghan (Sydney Morton) having the recently released “explosive” and revealing Oprah Winfrey interview, which took place just last March.
The production is being marketed as “the movie event of the year” by Lifetime. Escaping The Palace is the network’s third film on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance in 2018 and Becoming Royal in 2019, all of which featured two separate casts.
The new film appears to focus primarily on what the couple revealed during their sit-down with Oprah Winfrey where Meghan revealed she was suffering from anxiety and depression, and that Harry felt powerless to stop the palace’s pressures on her, adding that they both feared for their future together, should they remain in the royal family.
Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace is slated to premiere this fall. Stay tuned to find out more on the cast including who plays Oprah Winfrey.
