The pair’s difficult journey came to a joyful conclusion in the 2021 Love Island final, which aired on ITV2 on Monday night, as Millie opted to divide her £50k cash prize with Liam, following which he asked her to be his girlfriend during the live interview.

The show also saw Toby Aromolaran and Chloe Burrows finish second with Teddy Soares and Faye Winter coming in third place. Placing fourth was Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank who were first to be eliminated from the villa.
Liam, a 22-year-old bricklayer, and Millie, a 24-year-old fashion buyer’s administrator, discussed their time on the show, with host Laura Whitmore inquiring about how they overcame their infamous Casa Amor incident, in which Liam kissed another girl, Lillie, during his stay in the other villa while Millie remained faithful.
Millie reconciled with Liam, despite his attempts to cover up his cheating act by returning to the show alone, which wouldn’t go as planned as Lille told Millie what had happened, immediately after they arrived in the villa. The pair broke up, before finally getting back together and saying “I Love You” earlier this week.
“It was on the tip of my tongue for a week, and I was so close to saying it but I wanted to wait until a nice time, and I thought that last date in the castle was the perfect moment,” Liam explained. “So I said it, and I beat Millie to it!”
While Millie added: “We both planned to say it, but we didn’t know we were both going to say it that night. But because it was his birthday, I thought it was the perfect time to say it and make it really special.”
On Monday’s live broadcast, Liam got the ball rolling by officially asking Millie to be his girlfriend, stating he’s been “thinking about saying it for a while,” in the presence of the other finalists.
Millie chose the envelope with the money inside in the last seconds of the show, giving her the option of keeping the money and leaving Liam out to dry, or splitting it in half with him.
The winning couple also appeared in a video on Love Island’s Twitter account, thanking supporters for their support.
