Frankie Lons, Keyshia Cole’s birth mother, passed away on her birthday following her decades-long battle with addiction, according to TMZ.

Frankie overdosed in her Oakland home Sunday while celebrating her birthday when she reportedly used drugs while partying. Frankie’s usage was reportedly a relapse from what is described as a lengthy, hard-fought path to sobriety, according to her brother, Sam.

As documented via television, social media, and other outlets, Frankie struggled to stay clean and per Sam, he was regularly checking in to make sure Frankie was keeping to her sobriety.

Despite their tumultuous history, Sam says the family wants the world to remember Frankie as a mother who loved her children and wanted them to be together.

Keyshia Cole was put up for adoption at an early age by Frankie and her real father, Virgil Hunter. The singer was then raised by family friends before reconnecting with her birth parents later in life as an adult, following her success in the music industry.

Our thoughts and prayer go to Frankie’s loved ones in this difficult time.

Rest In Peace Frankie.
