Kehlani is marking the growing success of her single “Folded” with a gesture rooted in her own upbringing. Announced on August 7th, the singer is partnering with nonprofit The Laundry Project to cover laundry costs for mothers across the United States, an act she says comes from personal experience. “Growing up I knew how hard it was for all the single mamas in my family to get the tasks done on top of it all,” she wrote on Instagram. “Clean clothes is a basic necessity. I got y’all.”

“Folded” tells the story of a peaceful breakup, its chorus built on the line, “Come pick up your clothes / I had them folded.” While it’s been slow to rise on the Billboard charts, the song has caught fire on TikTok, where users have built choreography around its airy post-chorus. Kehlani’s giveaway links the song’s imagery with a real-world need, transforming a lyric about closure into an offering of care.

Working alongside Current Initiatives and creative director City James, the program will take place on Saturday, August 9th, from 10 a.m. to noon local time at seven laundromats nationwide: BubblyMat Laundry in Long Beach, Launderlux in Oakland, LaundroLab in Charlotte, Neighborhood Laundromat in Chicago, Spincycle Coin Laundry in Atlanta, SuperSude Laundromat in Washington, D.C., and LaundryBee – Jackson Heights in New York City. No RSVP is required, and all services are first-come, first-served.

Kehlani has made clear she won’t be attending any of the locations herself. “This is a giveback, not a gathering,” she wrote, underlining the focus on practical support rather than a public appearance.
