According to AllHipHop, Kanye West delivered a jaw-dropping act at a deposition for a lawsuit, which has him facing sanctions.
Kanye West is embroiled in a $20 million legal dispute with MyChannel, a Black-owned business that says he extended a contract and misappropriated the company’s technology to sell his Sunday Service merchandise.
MyChannel has since been battling to bring Kanye into court for an in-person deposition, but due to the risks still involved with COVID-19, a judge authorized the rapper to be questioned remotely.
MyChannel’s attorneys filed an emergency application earlier this week to get Kanye into court when he lost control and went haywire on MyChannel’s attorney, Michael Popok.
According to court records acquired by AllHipHop, Kanye referred to MyChannel’s white lawyer as “boy” at least 12 times during the tense deposition, which lasted for around 10 minutes before a disgruntled Kanye ended the hearing and walked away.
Throughout those ten minutes, the rapper/business mogul avoided looking at Popok, did not put down his phone, and boasted about his own “mental genius-ness” while questioning the lawyer whether he was “f**king stupid” while refusing to respond to questions.
Kanye informed Popok at one point that he was fortunate to be deposing the “richest Black man in America and a Black Trump supporter and that he couldn’t be bothered with the deposition because he had lives (and diets) to change.”
After putting on a “full-face hood and head covering adorned with Jesus Christ’s image, which obscured his face and muffled his voice,” Kanye’s deposition spiraled and despite MyChannel’s attorneys’ concerns, Kanye refused to take off the Jesus Christ mask, stating that the legal team had no right to see his face.
Following Kanye’s display, Ben J. Meiselas, one of MyChannel’s attorney’s stated:
“West’s bad faith efforts to sabotage the deposition will be viewed by the Court as one of the most outrageous and inappropriate deposition performances it has observed as well,” indicating that the deposition was on record.
In addition to summoning Kanye to court next month for another deposition, MyChannel is seeking a $63,000 sanction against the rapper.
