Many critics had speculated that Kanye West’s 10th studio album, “Donda,” would suffer as a result of the numerous delays, but once again, Ye’s loyal fan base and probably his unique release tactics have proven them wrong.

Ye’s 27-track album, which was finally released on Sunday, August 29th, soared almost instantaneously atop all real-time digital sales and streaming counts, with outright domination of unprecedented levels.

According to HDD:

“Apple reports that the album was streamed 60m+ times in the U.S. on its first day at the platform, breaking the streamery’s record for most-streamed album and artist in a day and (setting another record) hit #1 on Apple’s Top Albums chart in 152 countries during that same day. Donda became the third-most-played album on its first day ever on Apple.”

The feat is peculiar in nature, given that an impressive number of Ye’s ‘Donda’ tracks appear in all top 10 spots on real-time Spotify rankings, as well as owning the whole Top 20 on Apple Music USA.

The amount of dominance by Ye’s ‘Donda’ undoubtedly puts him in the race for all Billboard chart dominance as well, but how long can we truly say, given the imminent release of a similar delayed strategy release for Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” album.

However, debuting atop the Billboard 200 will see Kanye join the elite list consisting of Eminem and Jay-Z as the only artists in history to have ten straight #1 albums. This achievement will also make him the musician with the most Billboard 200 #1 debuts from studio albums this century.
