Any hopes of ever seeing John Boyega join the list of great actors that have graced the Marvel Universe have been shuttered.
The 30-year-old actor explained his current impression of the MCU, which is also owned by Disney, in a recent interview with Men’s Health.

Boyega said to writer Lola Ogunnaike, “That’s not in the vision for me now. I want to do nuanced things… I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top Iron Man in that universe.”
Boyega is correct that Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man is hard to surpass, but his agent Femi Oguns explained why the actor prefers to avoid parts that may be expected of him.
Oguns explained, “To disrupt the industry and also to make history, and nothing has changed. For John, it was never about trying to fit into the box. He wants to be the outline of the box.”
Per Oguns, Boyega would decline roles as stereotypical individuals such as drug dealers, thugs, or athletes, saying, “For John, it’s all about accountability. He doesn’t want to be defined by any stereotypical roles.”
The Star Wars actor also touched on his 2020 complaint about his character Finn on the franchise and the reason why he felt the need to speak up.
Sharing on the aftermath of his complaint about racist treatment on set, he said:
“I’m the one that brought this to the freaking forefront. At least the people going into it now, after my time, [they’re] cool. [Lucasfilm is] going to make sure you’re well supported and at least you [now] go through this franchise knowing that everybody is going to have [your] back. I’m glad I talked out everything at that time.”
Boyega’s comments come as he gears up for the release of his executive-produced film, “Breaking,” in which he stars alongside the late Michael K. Williams, Nicole Beharie, and more.
